A native of Reston, Michael joined WCL&W in 2004 and primarily focuses on managing the legislative approval process for clients seeking rezonings, special exceptions, zoning modifications, and other land use approvals. Michael has gained extensive experience through his work in Loudoun County and the Town of Leesburg and has been involved in several projects in other Northern Virginia municipalities. In addition to providing project management experience, Michael has a thorough understanding of local zoning ordinance, comprehensive plan, subdivision and site plan standards as well as significant experience in drafting proffer statements, zoning determination request letters, statements of justification, and various other land use documents.

Representative Experience

  • Represented a national homebuilder in a transit station area rezoning to accommodate a 496-unit multi-family project in Loudoun County
  • Represented a national fitness corporation in a zoning ordinance text amendment and special use permit for a child care center in the City of Fairfax
  • Garnered the necessary special exception approvals and transportation modifications for the development of an indoor/outdoor athletic complex in Loudoun County
  • Represented a local church in the attainment of special exception and sewage permit approvals in the Rural Policy Area of Loudoun County
  • Represented a furniture company in the rezoning of a split-zoned parcel in the Town of Leesburg
  • Represented a developer in a zoning ordinance modification to allow for the construction of unique home designs and a special exception to allow for the construction of a community center within a Rural Village in Loudoun County
  • Represented a local manufacturing company in the zoning conversion of its property in the Route 28 corridor of Loudoun County
